Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT),founded in 1920, is located in the famous northern city, Harbin, which has a reputation of 'East Paris'. After more than 80 years, HIT has developed into a large multi-disciplinary, open, research-oriented nationally renowned and world prestigious university with science and engineering as its core, at the meaning time, incorporating management and liberal arts disciplines.

 

    Since 1954, HIT was designated as one of six China's leading institutions, HIT has repeatedly been designated as one of China's leading institutions of higher education and as such has received significant financial support and investment from the Central Government. In 1984, HIT was designated as one of fifteenth China's leading institutions. In 1996, HIT was also listed as one of the first batch universities in Project 211. And then in 1999, HIT was designated as one of the nine universities with the aim of developing into well-known world-class universities supported by the country.

 

    HIT is located in the centre of Harbin, with the area of 343 hektares and 1.5 million square meters of architectural area. HIT has a perfect establishment of teaching, research and living. It has modern library, well-equipped teaching buildings, inner gymnasium, high-class student refectory in the country, well-founded student activity centre and standard international palaestra which can hold international contest. And such modern establishments provide an ascendant environment for the well-rounded development of the student's morality and intelligence.

 

    HIT contains 68 undergraduate programs, 138 master degree programs, 76 doctoral degree programs, 18 Post-Doctoral Research Centers, 14 disciplines of the First Category Doctor, Master Degree Programs and 18 National Key Disciplines and 22 National & Provincial (Ministerial) Key Labs.

 

    About 38,000 full-time students, including about 25,000 undergraduate students, 9,200 graduate students and 3,500 doctoral students study at HIT. The ratio of postgraduates and graduates is approximately 1:2. While including the Adult Education, part-time master students and so on, there are more than 55,000 registered students.

 

    We have a company of faculties of high academic standards. HIT employs a great number of scholars well known domestically and internationally. Currently, there are 2,944 faculty members, including 22 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science and/or the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 884professors and 1,102 associate professors.

 

    The number of National key disciplines ranks the fifth in China Universities, so does that of academicians.

 

    With outstanding faculties, HIT has received lots of achievements in some research fields. In 2005, research funding reached 1.05 billion yuan, and it raned the 1st of all the national key universities in research scale, level and outlay, and has achieved a lot of research production which are domestically leading, approaching international advanced level. In the evaluation of the 10th anniversary summary of National Science Committee '863'high technology work, HIT was the second in all the national universities in synthetical estimation. At present, HIT is dispensing its synthetical superiority in subjects, work hard, strive for a series of high level scientific productions that are of international influence and magnitude. In 2004, HIT sent its micro satellite successfully which representing its leading technology, and now, the satellite is traveling around the world. In the research of ShenZhou 5 and ShenZhou 6 spaceship, HIT shared the most works of all universities in basic science research.

    In the Autumn semester 2008, we have positions available as Foreign Language teachers in English, French, German, Russian and Japanese.

 

    Super market, restaurants, café, night club, gymnasium for use by teachers, library (English) and Dining Room for teachers are all available on campus. Besides, we also provide the infirmary service, which is equipped with experienced medical personal and well-founded medical facilities.

 

    The accommodation is located right on campus. For foreign teacher, the hall is self-contained with the bedroom, sitting room, kitchen and bathroom.  And specifically, we provide washing machine, air-conditioner, drinking machine, refrigerator, micro-wave oven, induction cooker, cupboard, table, chairs, sofa, bookcase, etc. European toilet, bathtub and shower are all available in the bathroom.
