Recently, the inaugural meeting of the Institute of Space Science and Applied Technology of Shenzhen Campus (hereinafter referred to as “the Institute”) and the Space Science and Applied Technology Military-Civil Integrated Innovation Laboratory (Preparation) was held.
Zhang Hu, executive vice-mayor of Shenzhen City, Han Jiecai, vice-president of the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), Tang Jie, secretary of the Party committee of the Preparation Construction Office of Shenzhen Campus, Academician Wei Fengsi, director of the Institute, Academician Wang Shui, distinguished professor of the Institute and Li Yanzhong, secretary-general of the municipal government of Shenzhen City unveiled the Institute together.
Within the concept of opening the institute, taking innovation orientation and self-improvement as the guidance, the Institute has attracted almost 70 units as cooperative partners and hired a large number of top talents and more than 150 members to cooperate and co-construct. The Institute aims to promote the development of the space science and applied technology in China, improve the independent innovation capability in relative fields, accelerate the integration of space science and technology innovation and economic and social development, and make contributions to national security and Shenzhen regional economic innovation and development as well as the basic discipline construction of Shenzhen Campus. Currently, the Institute has set up 10 laboratories, including space weather storms laboratory, planetary science laboratory, space plasma physics laboratory, low latitude space environment and applications laboratory, proximity space exploration and application laboratory, spatial data modeling laboratory, digital space satellite laboratory, navigation remote sensing technology laboratory, space materials laboratory, space science and technology civil- military integration laboratory.
Zhang Hu said in his speech that the establishment of the Institute and the preparation of a number of innovative laboratories are conducive to promoting the development of China’s space science and technology. It is of great significance for Shenzhen to develop their aerospace industry and to develop as the southern space science and technology research center. Shenzhen municipal government will provide favorable conditions for the development of Shenzhen Campus and the Institute and will promote the Institute to become a new highlight leading the development of space science and technology as soon as possible.
Han Jiecai said in his speech that the Institute will become a new engine for important breakthroughs in basic research of Shenzhen Campus and the rapid promotion of scientific research strength, especially original innovation ability. Through the construction of the Institute and a number of innovative laboratories, HIT will provide a development stage for the talent working in the field of space science and technology to give full play their talents and build a platform for the development of, space science and technology, innovation and civil-military integration.
At the meeting, Academician Wei Fengsi introduced the purpose, idea, goal, framework and task of the Institute. Professor Fang Hanxian, director of the Civil-military Integrated Innovation Laboratory (preparation), introduced the preparation of the laboratory.
Ren Zhenliang, assistant director of the president of HIT and executive director of the preparation construction office of Shenzhen Campus, read the list of distinguished professors of the Institute and the list of scientific and technological committee members, and the guests awarded letters of appointment for employed experts. 20 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, including Wang Shui, Tu Chuanyi, Fang Cheng, Ai Guoxiang, Wan Weixing, Ouyang Ziyuan, Zeng Qingcun, Xu Houze, Li Deren, Yao Zhenxing, Chen Yong, Guo Huadong, Gong Jianya, Shi Yaolin, Tao Shu, Yang Yuanxi, Li Chongyin, Mu Mu, Wang Jingxiu, Chen Xiaofei, Gao Rui and Ye Jiaan, are employed as distinguished professors of the Institute.
