The president of HIT, Zhou Yu conducted researches at the HIT Shenzhen Campus from the 30th of June to the 2nd of July. During this visit, he had a discussion with the deputy mayor of Shenzhen, Wu Yihuan on the construction of HIT Shenzhen Campus. Furthermore, Zhou Yu conducted field visits to the “Yungu Phase II” dormitory project, the teachers’ office reconstruction project and assessed the construction situation of G Building undergraduate teaching laboratory. Moreover, he attended the Life Science and Health Academy Symposium and other events.
On June30th, Zhou Yu and Wu Yihuan had a discussion about the preparations of establishing a Globalization and Economic Society Development International Joint Institute and Life Science and Health Academy.
Zhou Yu extended HIT’s gratitude to the Shenzhen Municipal Government for its strong support of HIT. He expressed that focusing on the preparations of establishing a globalization and economic society development international joint institute, HIT Shenzhen Campus has carried deep discussion with Harvard University’s, Kennedy School of Government on training and scientific research and other cooperation fields. In the meantime, HIT Shenzhen Campus had discussions on the preparations of constructing a life science and health academy with Emory University. Zhou Yu believed, with the great support of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, HIT will have many great achievements via cooperation with Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and Emory University and HIT will make more contributions to Shenzhen with important talents, technology and intelligence.
On behalf of Shenzhen Municipal Government, Wu Yihuan showed a warm welcome to the guests, and introduced the general situation of Shenzhen’s development. She pointed that biological medicine and medical apparatus and instruments in Shenzhen already have good momentum, which take up a large portion of Chinese market with vast potential for future development. However, higher education is the “weakness” of Shenzhen’s development. To improve this situation, Shenzhen has made unremitting efforts. HIT Shenzhen Campus’ cooperation with Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and Emory University has great significance to Shenzhen’s higher education and it provides huge support for Shenzhen to establish an innovation-oriented city.
On July2nd, Zhou Yu conducted field research on the “Yungu Phase II” dormitory project, teachers’ office reconstruction project and the construction situation of G Building undergraduate teaching laboratory. During his visit, Zhou Yu strengthened the construction of campus culture saying it should be enhanced and cultivate a sense of belonging; Furthermore, the university should give consideration to the living habits of both northern and southern students and create a favorable living environment for students; Rooms for individual study, teachers’ offices and sports facilities should be increased, which should be simple and elegant, providing convenience for students, teachers and scientific research.
Zhou Yu also visited the Computer Foundation Lab, the Organic Chemistry Lab, the College Physics Lab, the Electrical Technology Lab and several undergraduate teaching laboratories. Zhou Yu showed his earnest expectations to the staff of the Experiment and Innovation Education Center and pointed that, the construction of undergraduate teaching laboratories should: be information-based, networked and open, adopt modern methods to innovate management modes and explore inter-disciplinary teaching methods; Focus on the cultivation of students’ engineering practical ability and operational ability, which is the tradition of HIT, as well as the important step in undergraduate education; Making Laboratories “Dream Factories”, to provide space for students’ innovative thinking, and at the same time, the university set according credits to inspire students to develop self-innovated practice, and to cultivate the ability of solving problems.
During his visits, Zhou Yu also attended the Life Science and Health Academy Symposium and issued a chief academic adviser contract to the vice present of Emory University, Jeffrey Copeland. He also met the president of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, Douglas Elmendorf.
The leaders of the Shenzhen municipal unit, the assistant of the president, executive deputy director of HIT Shenzhen Campus Construction Office, Zhen Liang and other staff also attended the above-mentioned events.
