Han Jiecai, executive vice-president of HIT, gave a keynote speech on "Mathematics and Modern Society" to the students participating in the competition. Chen Min, deputy director of the Chinese Mathematics Association, and director of the Committee on Popularization of the Chinese Mathematics Society and the Olympic Committee; Chen Dayue, secretary-general of the Council of Chinese Mathematics Association, and dean of the School of Mathematics, Peking University; and Ding Xuemei, vice president of HIT attended the award ceremony.
Chen Min hoped that students could realize the importance of mathematics by participating in mathematics competitions. The mathematics competitions are not the end point for young people to learn mathematics, but another starting point. Only by constantly climbing to the peak can we promote China's transformation from a big mathematical country into a powerful mathematical country.
Han Jiecai gave a keynote speech on "Mathematics and Intelligence," "Mathematics and Association," "Mathematics and Preciseness," and "Mathematics and Self-confidence." He hoped that young students would "guard against arrogance and impatience, work hard, and lay a solid foundation", and also sent a message to students that they should "be idealistic, confident, not afraid of difficulties, not drifting with the tide, and boldly do what they want to do."
In Ding Xuemei’s speech, she introduced the history, school-running characteristics, education, and teaching reform of HIT. Then she also introduced the innovation and entrepreneurship education, mathematics disciplines and mathematics competitions of HIT. She hoped that students could actively participate in competitions. She hoped the students would improve their own abilities and exercise their mathematical thinking abilities, and the outstanding students who came out of the competitions could become the elites of all walks of life and contribute to the development of the country.
