On March 16th, the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia, along with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the inter-school friendship and cooperation relationship between Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) and Pacific National University was held at HIT. The two schools planted trees together—the evergreen spruce, symbolizing the long-lasting and evergreen friendship between them and even between China and Russia.

In March 1989, as the first cooperation agreement was signed, HIT and Pacific National University unveiled their plan for cooperation and exchange.

The two parties have achieved cooperation in wider areas, more abundant contents, and more innovated modes by activities such as the exchange of students and scholars, regularly co-hosting academic meetings, joint applications for major projects, and concerted efforts to promote the continuous development of ASRTU.

"This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China. Since then, the tree of friendship jointly planted by our two countries has taken root downwards and consolidated its branches. The bilateral relations between Russia and China have reached an unprecedented high level, " said Larin, Deputy Consul General of the Russian Federation in Shenyang, during the tree planting. He also said that the planting activity could be compared to a new twig from the Russian-Chinese friendship tree, which had become a strong and fruitful branch over the past three decades.

After the tree planting, faculty and students from China and Russia jointly participated in the activity of "Flowers of Memory 2019"—ASRTU International Youth Volunteer Camp.

By sweeping the memorial of the Red Army martyrs of the Soviet Union, visiting the Northeast Anti-Japanese Union Museum, and reviewing the history of the Anti-Japanese War, participants showed their respect to the revolutionary martyrs and enhanced their patriotism. Therefore, the great cause of Sino-Russian friendship will surely be handed down from generation to generation.

During the event, the youth from the two countries learned about HIT by activities such as the "ice-breaking campaign" and the "Discover China" traditional culture experience course. In addition, they also learned traditional Chinese culture by mutual learning, mutual help, and mutual friendship.
