(HIT News) At the recent seminar on the 40th anniversary of the founding of China's traffic engineering major, CHEN Hongren, a professor from the School of Transportation of HIT and five other traffic engineering experts were jointly awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for traffic engineering major in China.
The symposium, under the theme of "Sharing Dreams and Creating the Future through Science", was co-hosted by the Traffic Engineering and Informatization Branch of the China Highway Society and the School of Urban Traffic, Beijing University of Technology. It aimed to discuss the emerging issues and future development plans of the traffic engineering major in China, and to present a lifetime achievement award to the founders and pioneers who have contributed their whole lives to the development of the discipline. The Lifetime Achievement Award for Traffic Engineering Major in China went to six professors, namely CHEN Hongren form HIT, REN Futian from Beijing University of Technology, XU Jiqian from Southeast University, YAN Baojie from Chang'an University, YANG Peikun from Tongji University, and FENG Guiyan from Hunan University.
As one of the founders of the traffic engineering major in HIT and one of the first experts engaged in traffic field research and practice in China, Professor Chen Hongren is a veteran in teaching, scientific research, and traffic engineering practice. Over the years, he has occupied himself in the teaching and research of road survey and design, traffic planning, and traffic management and control. He has published four books and more than 30 papers, and mentored more than 20 graduate students. Moreover, he has won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in the Seventh Five-Year Plan period and a number of scientific and technological awards at the provincial and ministerial level. Also, he has served as the Director of the China Society of Traffic Engineering, member of the China Urban Traffic Planning Committee, member of the National Traffic Engineering Professional Education and Instruction Commission, member of the Expert Advisory Committee of Harbin, and the General Consultant of Shenzhen Municipal Design and Research Institute.
