Milestone approval: HIT has officially become an academic member ofthe ITU

HIT News(International HIT, School of Electronic and Information Engineering/ Texts)--- Recently, under the review and recommendation of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, HIT has passed the resolution of the UN’s International Telecommunication Union, or ITU, formallybecominganITU academic member.

With the qualification to participate in the exchange, cooperation, and decision-making consultation of academic and research affairs in related fields under the framework of ITU’s global organization, our university will be an important force in the formulation of telecommunication standards, the development of international telecommunication academic exchanges, and the improvement of the international level and influence of HIT.

In addition, our university can also select and send students and teachers to intern in the ITU, assisting the nurture of international organization talentswho areable to betterparticipate in international affairs and competition after observing theinternational environment and regulations. Currently, the ITU has 15 academic members in China, including nine universities such asTsinghua University, Zhejiang University, and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

It has been learned that our Vice President An Shi headed a delegation to the headquarter of the ITU in June 2019, and reached a consensus on our institute's application for becoming an academic member of the ITU,as well as recommending outstanding students to conduct internship and training activities in the ITU.In order to launch this work, the School of Electronic and Information Engineering of HIT has takenthe lead to carry out the related application work, working in conjunction with HIT’s International Programming Office, Student Affairs Office, and Graduate Student Affairs Office.

For the next step, HIT will widelymobilize academic forces for deepengagement in the ITU's academic affairs as the door of exchanges and cooperation with ITU’sregulatory bodies, policy-makers, and industry experts continues to open further. Zealously, we willselect excellent teachers and students to intern in theITU andattend global and regional academic conferences so as to share ouracademic achievements with international counterparts.
