What is China Youth Science and Technology Award?

The China Youth Science and Technology Award, jointly sponsored by the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the China Association for Science and Technology and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, aims to commend young scientific and technological talents who have made outstanding contributions to the country's economic development, social progress and scientific and technological innovation, and to stimulate the enthusiasm of young scientific and technological workers for innovation, creation and entrepreneurship.

In 1987, in order to solve the problems of the gap and brain drain of scientific and technological talents caused by the times, the China Association for Science and Technology set up the Youth Science and Technology Award of the China Association for Science and Technology at the suggestion of Dr. Qian Xuesen and other scientists of the older generation, with a quota of 100 each. Since 1994, it has been jointly organized by the China Association for Science and Technology, the Central Organization Department and the former Ministry of Personnel, and its name has been changed to China Youth Science and Technology Award. In 2015, with the approval of the central government, a special award for the China Youth Science and Technology Award was added, and 10 winners would be selected on the basis of merit.

For a long time, with the concern of the Party and the government and the support of all sectors of society, the attractiveness and influence of the China Youth Science and Technology Award has been expanding, becoming the cradle of outstanding young science and technology workers. Also,  many award winners have become the backbone of China's scientific and technological innovation. According to statistics, among the nearly 1,500 winners, 171 were elected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a large number of winners have taken up important posts in universities, research institutes, large enterprises, Party and government departments and international organizations, playing an important role in politics, economy, science and technology, education, culture and social development.
