At the final evaluation meeting of the 7th Science and Technology Innovation Award of China Optical Engineering Society held on May 16th, The project "High Performance Distributed Brillouin Optical Fiber Sensing Technology, Instruments and Applications" completed by the team led by Professor Dong Yongkang of the Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, who is in charge of the national major instrument and equipment development special project, the esteemed mentor in our school, won the first prize in the category of technological invention.

The Science and Technology Innovation Award of the Chinese Society of Optical Engineering is an important award in the field of optical engineering. It is selected once a year and focuses on the outstanding contributions and achievements made by the optical engineering community in scientific and technological innovation, product research and development, technological transformation, etc. The 7th Innovation Award selected 2 first prizes, 4 second prizes and 1 third prize for technological inventions.

Professor Dong Yongkang's team has been focusing on the research work of high-performance distributed Brillouin fiber sensing technology for many years, has shifted from basic research to industrial application, and has achieved systematic high-level research results, which have been published in famous journals such as Light: Science and Applications and Optica. The team has always insisted that "technology should not be limited to laboratories". With the support of the national major instrument and equipment development special project "Distributed Optical Fiber Strain Monitor" (with a funding of 41 million yuan), the team has successfully developed a series of high-performance distributed Brillouin optical fiber sensing analyzers with independent intellectual property rights and independent controllability. The instrument has international leading performance indexes such as centimeter-level spatial resolution, megahertz-level measurement speed and 100-kilometer-level measurement distance, It has played an important role in key areas of national economy and people's livelihood such as petrochemical, electric power, civil engineering and transportation, and has been widely praised by leading enterprises in industries such as Aerospace Science and Industry Group, CLP Group, PetroChina, State Grid, CCCC Highway Planning and Design Institute and China CRRC.
