On November 9th, President Zhou Yu attended the “Summit of Transformational Leadership for Global Universities” held by NUS (Suzhou) Research Institute.,and he was invited to give a report entitled “The Cooperative Relationship between Universities and Industrial Circles”.
President Zhou Yu introduced the subject from the global technological innovation and said that, the interactive cooperation between universities (especially research-oriented universities) and industry groups is an inevitable requirement for enhancing the capability of independent innovation and adapting to the trend of integration of science and economy. The mutual promotion and common development between industry and universities have become the typical characteristics of the relationship between these two parts. President Zhou Yu reviewed the development history of our school and the historic relations between our school the industrial sector, and introduced the current cooperation between our school and national large firms including some domestic large enterprises and the school’s achievements. At the same time, President Zhou Yu pointed out that, to promote the deep cooperation between schools and enterprises, we must grasp the interaction laws between them, driven by business needs, and make the best of the university sources and the platform set up by our government. In order to build a sound research foundation and fully use the applications and the chain of achievement and industrialization, we must break the barriers to technological achievements with the protection of fair rules. The participants highly praised the successful cooperation between our school and the industry.
The summit was initiated by the National University of Singapore and Shanghai Jiaotong University, sponsored by the Temasek International Foundation, and principals and representatives from attended 24 by domestic and international universities attended the summit. Presidents from the National University of Singapore, Shanghai Jiaotong University, the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Fudan University, Melbourne University, Zhejiang University, Xiamen University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and President Zhou Yu together have further discussed some hot issues including “University Transformation and Promotion”, “Structure Innovation of University Administration” and “University Internationalization”.
