Han Jiecai, president of the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), led a delegation to the United Kingdom from Nov 30 to Dec 3. The visit included meetings at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, a visit to the University of Cambridge where he delivered a speech, the signing of a strategic cooperation memorandum with Elsevier, and interactions with HIT alumni in the UK.
Han met with Minister Wang Qi at the embassy. Han expressed his hope that, with the support of the embassy, HIT could engage in deeper cooperation with more high-level universities in the UK in areas such as discipline development. Wang conveyed the embassy's support for HIT.

Han visited the University of Cambridge and held discussions on Dec 1 with Alan Macfarlane, a life fellow at King's College, University of Cambridge, and other representatives from this university. He stated that HIT is eager to collaborate with the University of Cambridge, aiming for deeper and higher-level cooperation in cultivating top-tier innovative talents.

Han visited Elsevier's London office on Dec 2, where he signed a strategic cooperation memorandum with Nick Fowler, Elsevier's chief academic officer. According to the memorandum, both parties will deepen cooperation in areas such as the dissemination of academic achievements. Han expressed his hope for HIT and Elsevier to work together to promote the development of global higher education. Fowler introduced Elsevier's relevant developments and services in China, and expressed anticipation for expanding cooperation fields and innovating cooperation models with HIT to produce more achievements.

Han met with Lord Neil Mendoza, provost of Oriel College, University of Oxford, on the afternoon of Dec 2. He introduced HIT's unique advantages in discipline development and expressed a desire to deepen strategic cooperation in areas such as student training. Lord Mendoza gave an overview of Oriel College's current situation and stated that they hoped to cooperate with HIT in short- and long-term study visits.

During Han's stay in the UK, he interacted with alumni, listening to their stories of struggle and achievement in the UK. He acknowledged the role of the HIT's British alumni association in promoting exchanges and cooperation between alumni and HIT, and expressed hope that alumni would continue to work alongside HIT to support its sustainable development and faculty building.
