The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Industrial Electronics Society has convened its Executive Committee (ExCom) Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal. Professor Gao Huijun from the School of Astronautics at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) attended the meeting as the newly-elected president elect and delivered a work report, which makes him the first scholar from the Chinese mainland to hold the position since the society's founding in 1951.
The IEEE Industrial Electronics Society is one of the oldest societies established societies under the IEEE. The society has long been dedicated to the theoretical research and engineering applications of technologies such as electronics, control systems, communications, instrumentation, and computational intelligence within industrial and manufacturing systems. It is one of the most influential international organizations in the field of industrial electronics.
Gao, an IEEE Fellow, member of the Academia Europaea, and vice-president of the Chinese Association of Automation, serves as editor-in-chief of IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, and previously held the position of editor-in-chief of IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics. His longstanding research focuses on automatic control theory and precision instrumentation applications. He has received the second prize of the National Natural Science Award twice, one China Patent Gold Award, one special prize and five first prizes of provincial and national first-grade society scientific and technological awards, alongside significant honors including the Chinese Youth Science and Technology Award, the XPLORER PRIZE, the IEEE Dr.-Ing. Eugene Mittelmann Achievement Award, and the IEEE Norbert Wiener Award.
