Wang Lukai is a 2024 master's graduate from the School of Mechatronics Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT). He won the top prize at the 19th "Challenge Cup" competition with a self-developed drone designed for stable flight in complex, low-altitude environments.
His project focused on anti-interference and autonomous navigation. Wang built a high-fidelity simulation with dynamic obstacles and changing weather, training the drone via reinforcement learning until it achieved an 85 percent success rate. Translating the system to a physical drone involved persistent troubleshooting, including tethering it during tests to prevent crashes. Wang refined both his technology and presentation, learning to highlight practical applications like logistics and rescue.
Now pursuing a doctorate, he aims to enhance drones with visual AI and someday contribute to aerospace missions.
