The All-China Women's Federation held a commemorative and recognition conference in Beijing for International Women's Day on March 2. Professor Tan Yiqiu, president assistant of the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), president of HIT’s Weihai campus, and a member of the School of Transportation Science and Engineering, was awarded the title of National March 8 Red-Banner Pacesetter.
Tan is a member of the Central Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association and vice-chairwoman of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee. She is a nationally recognized leading talent and has received titles such as the National May 1 Labor Medal for Women.
She led a team focused on traffic safety during the ice and snow season. For cold regions like Heilongjiang, she proposed and developed an integrated design theory and method for asphalt pavement structural materials that addresses durability challenges caused by large temperature variations in cold regions. Her pioneering technologies for active snow and ice removal on asphalt pavements have been applied in over 80 projects across 16 provinces. Her team has built a digital management platform for icy and snowy conditions on the Suifenhe-Manzhouli Expressway, relying on AI multi-objective optimization siting, reducing traffic congestion and accidents caused by weather and ensuring the smooth hosting of the Harbin Winter Asian Games.
