The 2026 training program for the Chinese Union for Supervisor Development (CUSD) was held on April 19 under the guidance of the Ministry of Education's Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education, organized by the CUSD, and hosted by the Suzhou Research Institute of Advanced Research at the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT).
More than 400 graduate supervisors and industry mentors from over 180 universities, research institutes, and companies across the country attended the program under the theme of improving graduate supervision and the quality of postgraduate education. Shen Yi, deputy director of HIT's council, delivered remarks at the opening ceremony on behalf of the CUSD's secretariat.

The program, themed "Integrating Industry and Education to Cultivate Talent and Promote Excellence in Supervision", featured keynote presentations and five parallel forums. Academician Tan Jiubin from HIT's School of Instrument Science and Engineering delivered a keynote titled Exploring Ways to Improve the Quality of Postgraduate Education, sharing HIT's experience in supervising and training graduate students. Experts from the Communication University of China, Soochow University, and the National Energy Group's Science and Technology Research Institute also gave presentations, discussing approaches to collaboration between academic and industry supervisors. In the parallel forums, participants from universities, research institutes, and leading companies held in-depth discussions on topics such as training outstanding engineers, joint university–industry degree programs, fostering positive supervisor–student relationships, and collaboration in emerging liberal arts fields.
During the program, the CUSD presented its first awards for outstanding graduate supervisors and teams. A total of 40 university-based supervisors and 40 industry mentors were recognized, along with 40 teams. At HIT, Academician Tan and Professor Huang Zhiwei of the School of Life Sciences and Medicine were named Outstanding Graduate Supervisors. The Urban Water Systems Intelligent Management Research Team, led by Academician Ren Nanqi of the School of Environment, was recognized as an Outstanding Team. Wang Haifeng, chief technology officer of Baidu Netcom Science and Technology Co and an industry mentor for HIT graduate students, was named an outstanding industry mentor.
