The finals of the 17th Chinese Mathematics Competition for College Students were recently held in Chengdu. Students from the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) won seven first prizes, nine second prizes, and eight third prizes, with two students placing in the top 10 in the non-mathematics category.

The first-prize winners were Jiang Zhengkang and Guo Yuxuan from the School of Future Technology, Li Zongrui from the Faculty of Computing, Chen Yu from the School of Management, Luo Yajie and Wan Qin from the Weihai Campus, and Tu Jialin from the Shenzhen Campus. Their advisors were Professor Yin Xunbo, Professor You Chao, Professor Zhang Chao, and Associate Professor Zhang Xia from the School of Mathematics; Associate Professor Jiang Xinrui and Associate Professor Wang Mengxin from the Weihai Campus; and Professor Yang Guoqiu from the Shenzhen Campus.
The competition featured four divisions: senior and junior mathematics, and non-mathematics A and B. It drew 352,000 participants from 1,322 universities nationwide, with 1,366 students from 379 universities advancing to the finals.
Launched in 2009, the Chinese Mathematics Competition for College Students is held annually to identify promising talent and support improvements in university mathematics education. To date, more than 2.1 million students have taken part. In 2023, it was included in the China Association of Higher Education’s list of academic competitions and has grown into one of the largest competitions of its kind in Chinese higher education.
