The 11th Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) Collective Doctoral Wedding was held at HIT's International Campus on May 31. A total of 187 couples participated this year, setting a new record. The official multimedia platforms of HIT broadcast the entire event live, attracting over 5 million views.
Since its inception in 2013, the collective doctoral wedding has become a distinctive hallmark of HIT's campus culture. To date, 803 couples have tied the knot in happiness under the joint witness of their alma mater, teachers, family and friends.
Chen Jie, secretary of the Party Committee of HIT, attended the event and presented golden discs engraved with the HIT main building, the school motto, and the names of the newlyweds to all the couples. Multiple university leaders also attended to witness the wedding ceremony.
HIT prepared diamond rings made from 1-carat Zhenxin (Sincere Heart) diamonds independently developed by HIT Professor Zhu Jiaqi's team, adding a uniquely hardcore romance characteristic of HIT.
The diamonds were produced by the Infrared Thin Film and Crystal Team of HIT's School of Astronautics and its incubated enterprise, Henan Tan Zhen Xin Cai Technology Co. They are very hard and have strong chemical stability. Related technologies have won numerous domestic and international awards, including the second prize of the National Technology Invention Award, the first prize of Heilongjiang Provincial Technology Invention Award, the China Patent Gold Award, the Heilongjiang Provincial Patent Gold Award, and the gold medal at the Geneva International Invention Exhibition.
The university also provided bouquets, wedding candies, and other small items, and set up multiple photo spots on and off campus. The Harbin Conservatory of Music Orchestra also gave a wonderful performance at the venue.
Chen Rui, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and vice-president of HIT, encouraged the newlyweds to carry forward the vanguard culture of HIT in the new era, integrate the happiness of their small families into the development of the great nation, transform the romance of love and the warmth of family into motivation for building careers, join with their partners to fulfill the dream of family and country, make their small families more prosperous, and help make the country stronger and more prosperous.
Professor Zhu Jiaqi from the School of Astronautics extended his sincerest blessings to the newlyweds, hoping that they would have both the courage to tackle scientific research challenges and the patience to manage ordinary daily life, and set out again carrying the noble mission of HIT people to serve the Party and the country.
As representatives of the newlyweds, Hao Guanglu, a 2021 doctoral student from the School of Astronautics, and Li Fanrong, a 2023 doctoral student from the School of Marxism, stated that they would boldly undertake the important mission of being vanguards, keep the school motto in mind, remain true to their original aspiration of serving the country, build thriving small families, and dedicate themselves to their nation.
