PhD Admissions Update | Prof. Xingyi Ma’s Research Group
Group Overview
NanoMax Group is an interdisciplinary research team with a strong international orientation and a commitment to excellence in advanced scientific research. The group currently includes 4 postdoctoral researchers, 25 PhDstudents, 7 master’s students, and 6 undergraduate students. We are dedicated to cultivating a rigorous yet supportive research environment that promotes scholarly integrity, technical excellence, innovation, and distinctive expertise in chip-based biomedical technologies. Our research culture is founded on openness, collaboration, and professionalism, while actively supporting the long-term academic and professional development of all group members.Through sustained academic and industrial partnership, the group has established a high-level, internationally engaged research platform, as outlined below:
Supported by a key program of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, the group maintains close collaboration with Peking University Shenzhen Hospital and Lanzhou University in areas of talent cultivation and scientific research.
With support from the Shenzhen International Cooperation Program, the group has established the HIT–Korea University Cell-Chip International Joint Laboratory, serving as an important platform for international collaborative research and innovation.
Supported by the Harbin Institute of Technology World-Class University Partnership Program, the group actively conducts faculty and student exchanges, as well as joint curriculum development, in collaboration with Seoul National University.
The group has also translated multiple research outcomes into practical applications and established collaborative relationships with several leading industrial stakeholders. Through technology transfer and university-industry collaboration, we advanced talent development and fostered innovation that addresses real-world challenges.

Introduction

Professor Xingyi Ma is a Professor at Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, doctoral supervisor, and Director of the NanoMedicine and Interdisciplinary Science Group (NanoMax Group) within the School of Medicine and Health. In 2025, the group was recognized as a Guangdong Provincial University Innovation Team and serves as a core member of the MIIT Key Laboratory of Science and Engineering for Multimodal Prevention and Control of Major Chronic Diseases.
The group has long been engaged in interdisciplinary research at the interface of nanobiotechnology and biomedical engineering, with particular strengths in biochips, nano sensing, biomaterials, and intelligent diagnostic systems. It has established a strong research foundation in nanobiotechnology, advanced functional materials, biosensing platforms, and data-driven analytical models, with multiple technologies successfully translated into practical and application-oriented solutions. Leveraging the multiple-campus structure of the Harbin Institute of Technology, the group conducts complementary and synergistic research across the Shenzhen and Weihai campuses, integrating frontier scientific discovery with technological innovation and translational biomedical applications. This integrated research strategy supports advances across fundamental science, engineering development, and healthcare-related technologies.
