The third Arctic Research Forum of the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities (ASRTU), co-hosted by Harbin Institute of Techonology (HIT), ASRTU and North-Eastern Federal University, and held with the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), recently took place at HIT.
Liu Ting, vice-president of HIT; Anatoly Nikolaev, rector of North-Eastern Federal University; Sergei Linnik, consul general of the Russian Federation in Harbin; and Guan Shaonan, deputy director of the Harbin municipal science and technology bureau, attended the opening ceremony and delivered addresses.
Shahbaz Khan, director of the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, delivered a video address. Robert Fedorov, counselor of the International Cooperation Department – Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, together with the Russian Standing Council of ASRTU and Bauman Moscow State Technical University, sent letters of congratulations to the forum.
More than 120 participants, who were experts from Russia and Chinese universities and industry, as well as HIT faculty members and students working in related fields, attended the forum.

Academician Mikhail Lebedev, Professor Gao Feiyi of HIT's School of Management, and Professor Mikhail Kornyakov delivered keynote presentations on composite materials, Arctic governance, and international university cooperation. To further advance Arctic research, HIT signed a memorandum of cooperation with North-Eastern Federal University and the Yakutsk Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The agreement will promote collaboration between scholars from China and Russia and foster long-term partnerships in science, education, and innovation.

The forum aimed to further deepen academic exchanges and cooperation between China and Russia in Arctic-related fields, while providing a platform to promote the application of research findings and support the development of early-career researchers. Four parallel sessions were held, where 64 experts and scholars from China and Russia in ecology and environmental science, physics, civil engineering, transportation engineering, and related fields presented their latest research on frontier Arctic technologies and sustainable development, conservation of northern and Arctic ecosystems, trans-Arctic transport corridors and opportunities for cooperation among Asia-Pacific countries, and innovative solutions for infrastructure construction and geotechnical engineering in northern regions. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the latest research findings, emerging technologies, and future trends, and exchanged views on developing joint research platforms, collaborative talent cultivation, and technology transfer.

ASRTU was jointly founded by HIT and Bauman Moscow State Technical University. Since its establishment, it has continuously promoted exchanges and collaborative development between Chinese and Russian universities, while advancing technological cooperation and collaborative innovation. Today, it is one of the most active and influential platforms for higher education cooperation between the two countries. Looking ahead, ASRTU will continue to support collaboration between Chinese and Russian scholars and contribute its expertise to advancing sustainable development in the Arctic.
