The inaugural conference of the Space Architecture Committee of the Architectural Society of China (ASC) and the academic forum on Space Architecture's innovation and development recently took place in Harbin.
More than 200 experts and scholars from universities, research institutes, the aerospace sector, and architectural design organizations across China attended the event. Distinguished guests and academicians jointly unveiled the Space Architecture Committee, while the Space Architecture Manifesto was officially released at the conference.
In their remarks, Academician Bao Weimin, director of the Science and Technology Committee of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, Xiu Long, president of the Architectural Society of China, and Academician Liu Hong, vice-president of HIT, noted that, as China advances its deep-space exploration strategy, it is time to accelerate research into space architecture.
The establishment of the Space Architecture Committee, the country's first academic organization dedicated to this field, serves as a collaborative platform bringing together experts in aerospace and architecture. It is expected to foster groundbreaking advances in extraterrestrial construction and contribute China's architectural expertise to the peaceful exploration and use of outer space.

Academician Mei Hongyuan, director of HIT's Research Institute of Architecture in Complex Environments, presented the Space Architecture Manifesto, outlining the mission and vision for research in extraterrestrial architecture.

At the keynote forum, Academician Yue Qingrui, director of the Institute of Urbanization and Urban Safety at the University of Science and Technology Beijing, Academician Mei, Academician Jiang Weiping, director of the Institute of Science and Technology Development at Wuhan University, and Professor Xie Gengxin, a corresponding member of the International Academy of Astronautics and dean of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Chongqing University, delivered keynote presentations entitled Engineering Applications of High-Performance Fiber-Reinforced Composites, Towards Human Habitats in Deep Space: Innovation and the Mission of Extraterrestrial Architecture, Mapping Planetary Bodies and Real-Time Lunar Localization and Mapping Technologies, and Exploring Lunar Lava Tubes for Future Human Habitats, respectively.

At the parallel forums on "Innovative Design and In-Situ Construction of Extraterrestrial Architecture" and "Overall Planning and Systems Engineering for Extraterrestrial Architecture", experts and scholars from the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, HIT, and other institutions delivered presentations on a variety of topics. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on frontier theories, enabling technologies, and future directions for extraterrestrial architecture.
