A delegation led by Poon Wai-yin, provost of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), visited Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) on July 24 and met with HIT President Han Jiecai and HIT Vice-President Shuai Yong.

Han noted that CUHK's strong international outlook and distinguished record in fundamental research have made it an important partner for HIT. Building on the solid foundation established through years of close collaboration, he expressed hope that the two universities would expand joint research in areas such as fundamental research and medicine-engineering integration, explore new approaches to talent cultivation, establish a model for collaborative innovation between mainland and Hong Kong universities, and advance the integrated development of education, scientific and technological innovation, and talent cultivation.
Poon said that HIT has a long-established reputation in aerospace and has continued to make significant advances in interdisciplinary medicine-engineering research. She noted that the two universities have launched a number of collaborative initiatives in recent years and have already achieved encouraging results.
She expressed hope that the partnership would continue to deepen through expanded long-term two-way exchanges between faculty and students, the joint cultivation of outstanding talent with interdisciplinary expertise and global perspectives, and closer collaboration in support of China's drive toward greater self-reliance and strength in science and technology.
During the visit, Poon and her delegation toured the Satellite Technology Research Institute, the State Key Laboratory of Aerospace Mechanisms, the headquarters base of Gongda Satellite R&D and Testing, and the Space Environment Simulation and Research Infrastructure. They also attended the closing ceremony of the 2026 HIT-CUHK Summer School on Space Science.
