Summer Programs

The computer major at the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) was founded in 1956 as one of the earliest computer majors in China. The School of Computer Science and Technology has first-level key discipline of computer science and technology, first-level disciplines of software engineering and cyberspace security, and a post-doctoral research station. Computer Science was ranked  33th in the USNews Rankings of Best Global Universities for Computer Science, and the  top 28  in Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) in 2017.

The network and information security, intelligent human-computer interaction, Chinese information processing, service computing and software engineering are oriented to national strategy requirements; the fault-tolerant computing technology is geared to the needs of aerospace; massive data computing and bioinformatics are directed to cutting edge technologies. These research areas in the school have remarkable advantages and features and pioneer to advance.

Moreover, the school has conducted cooperation with over 40 universities with high reputation in terms of talent training programs, such as the 3+2 and 4+2 joint master cultivation programs between the HIT and the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). 4-6 selected outstanding undergraduate students go to CMU for further study; more than 30 graduate students benefit from the international joint cultivation; and 30-50 undergraduate students go to well-known international universities for short-term study per year. Moreover, 100-150 scholars are invited or dispatched for international academic exchange.

Currently, there are 2472 students, including 1596 undergraduate students, 534 graduate students, and 342 Ph.D. candidates in the school. During the past 60 years, the school has formed the education philosophy of “research-oriented, personalized and elite”, and already cultivated 9681 undergraduate students, 3697students with master degree, and 754 students with Ph.D. degree.

Ⅰ. Introduction of International Summer School

The two-week Summer School includes two sections: courses and academic forum.

Courses:We have two English-taught courses including“ High Performance Machine Learning” and “Multi-Agent and Multi-Robot Systems” . Also we are so honored to have Prof. Xipeng Shen from North Carolina State University, who is the expert in the field of Programming Systems and Machine Learning. Prof.Francesco Amigoni  is  from Polytechnic University of Milan,  and his research  areas  are  Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.

Academic Forum:  Some  key academic lectures  will be given  by  senior managers from world-known AI companies, which will enable students to quickly understand most new AI progress in IT field. These talks will contain the frontier knowledge of computer science, AI topics and other related problems.

Meantime, we will also organize a variety of visits and exchange activities, in which all the students are going to be presented with a wonderful, colorful and rewarding party.
