From October 11th to 14th, leading HIT delegation, Vice President REN Nanqi visited Tribhuvan University (TU) of Nepal and signed relevant agreements. During the visit, REN also met Nepal’s President Yadav.  

With the outstanding performance in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, the largest and oldest university TU was established in 1956. In recent years, as the rapid urbanization in Nepal has brought about a series of environmental pollution and energy shortage problems, it is urgently needed related technology and talents. After about one year’s negotiation on relevant subjects, HIT and TU have reached many agreements on many projects, like solid waste management and planning, river restoration and bio-energy, and so on.  

In the course of the visit, representing HIT, REN signed a cooperation agreement with the Technology Institute of TU. Both sides negotiated that, to fulfill Nepal’s national needs, they would develop application technology and establish demonstration program accordingly relying on HIT State Key Laboratory of urban water resources and water environment. In addition, they also agreed that TU would send two or three teachers each year to HIT for further study and training, meanwhile, carrying out collaborative research. By this way, it is hoped that HIT would cultivate more professionals for Nepal and transform the scientific achievements of the State Key Laboratory to overseas.  

  Attending the “Third International Conference on Large-Scale Sustainable Energy Technology against Climate Change”, REN and his accompanies also paid a formal visit to Nepal’s President Yadav. In the conference, REN’s report about transforming wastes into bio-energy aroused great attention. All the participants spoke highly of the theories and achievements on making use of wastes to retrieve various energy and recourses in the report, as well as expressed that the technique and achievements boasted broad prospects for development in Nepal.
