By invitation, Vice President HAN Jiecai and his delegation paid a visit to key universities and research institutes in Russia and Belarus. During their stay in Russia, the delegation visited the Ioffe Physical Technical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences; St. Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics; Lomonosov Moscow State University; Keldysh Research Center; and the Russian Academy of Science Joint Institute for High Temperature. While in Belarus, the delegation also visited the B. I. Stepanov Institute of Physics, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus; and the Belarusian National Technical University.
The delegation had in-depth discussions with heads of relevant departments and toured the Monometer, Optics, Information and Plasma labs. Vice President HAN proposed numerous wide-ranging cooperative ventures with the Russian and Belarusian universities that included joint scientific projects, academic exchanges and joint training of students. The proposals were well received and agreed upon by all parties, laying a solid foundation for the relevant HIT departments to implement cooperative programs and exchanges with the Russian and Belarusian universities.
The delegation attended the National University of Belarus’ 90th Anniversary Celebration offering HIT’s heartfelt greetings, congratulations and gifts. The delegation also attended the University, Society and Innovative Development Forum, which was one of the celebration’s main activities. Participants discussed and exchanged experiences about the important influence of higher education on innovation throughout society.
At the conclusion of their trip, the delegation visited the Chinese Embassy in Belarus and was warmly received by Ambassador LU Guicheng. HAN reviewed with Ambassador LU HIT’s history, student body, curricula, scientific research and cooperative programs with Belarus. LU praised HIT for its strict teaching, long history and rapidly developed scientific research. He especially praised HIT teachers and alumni for their excellent work in Belarus living up to HIT’s motto of “Being strict in qualifications for graduates; making every endeavor in educating students.” He pledged embassy support of HIT’s broad cooperative programs with Belarusian universities and research institutes.
