February 15th and 16th, China’s Sino-EU Engineering Education Platform’s (SE3P) Working Group convened at Zhejiang University of Science and Technology. HIT Vice President DING Xuemei, served as the group’s vice-chair. The SE3P aims to promote the collaboration between Institutions of Higher Education in Engineering in both China and Europe in the fields of talent cultivation, student exchange, teacher training, teaching materials development and scientific research collaboration.
Working Group participants reviewed SE3P’s two year history of achievements and discussed work priorities for 2012, the Lisbon Action Plan, and the Harbin Roadmap for The 3rd Sino-EU Workshop on Engineering Education. They also refined SE3P’s development direction as an open and exemplary collaborative platform to facilitate China and Europe’s cooperation and communication regarding engineering education.
In 2010, China’s Ministry of Education and the IDEA League (a strategic alliance of five of Europe's leading technology universities) jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Sino-EU Engineering Education to establish the SE3P in an effort to further China’s Plan for Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers. China’s Ministry of Education went on to develop the SE3P Working Group.
HIT will host The 3rd Sino-EU Workshop on Engineering Education at the end of August, 2012, at which time the member universities will sign the HARBIN Roadmap that will establish Sino-EU Schools of Joint Doctorates and address the issues of transfer credit, criteria for second majors, acceptance of new members, convening of the fourth and fifth workshops, and SE3P Scholarships.
The 2nd Sino-EU Workshop in 2011 was hosted by Instituto Superior Técnico, in Portugal and produced the Lisbon Action Plan. The inaugural Workshop was convened at Tongji University in Shanghai in 2010.
The Sino-EU Workshop on Engineering Education is comprised of 12 CLUSTER (Consortium Linking Universities of Science and Technology for Education and Research) member institutions and 18 renowned Chinese science, technology and engineering universities, with the counsel of the Chinese Ministry of Education. The SE3P Working Group includes seven professors from China’s seven top universities including Harbin Institute of Technology.
In addition to the experts and representatives from Chinese member universities, Chinese Ministry of Education participants included XU Yongji, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges; YANG Xiaochun, Head of the European Office; LI Maoguo, Section Director of the Department of Higher Education; Ms. XI Ru; and Ms. LONG Man.
