January 17th, President WANG Shuguo welcomed Sylvie BERMANN, the visiting French Ambassador to China, and her delegation of 10.
President WANG, on behalf of Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), introduced the visiting entourage to HIT. FAN Hongbo, Director of HIT’s International Office, reviewed the university’s long history of bilateral student and scientific research exchange projects with France. To date, HIT has sent more than 400 students to France and accepted 72 French students. President WANG expressed HIT’s commitment to students' professional and cross-cultural competence and looks forward to more opportunities for HIT students to study in France. Ambassador BERMANN supported the proposed Culture Week as a rich extracurricular activity that would contribute to greater understanding of French art and culture.
HIT and the French engineering university, Institut National des Sciences Appliqués de Lyon (INSA Lyon), signed an international Memorandum of Intent for the creation of Metislab: Medical Engineering and Theory in Signal and Image Laboratory. The future International Associated Laboratory (LIA) will involve HIT with CREATIS, (the French Centre for Research on acquisition and image processing for health) through two of its governing bodies (CNRS, www.cnrs.fr, and INSA, www.insa-lyon.fr/en). The collaboration will focus on three themes: image and signal (theory); high performance computing platforms in biomedical imaging, new imaging modalities in medicine.
The French ambassador committed to lending greater support to the communication between HIT and French universities and expressed her desire that HIT would continue to promote cooperation with France.
Assistant President XU Xiaofei, Professor LIU Wanyu of HIT’s School of Electrical Engineering and Automation, and Deputy Director WANG Xiuheng of HIT’s International Office also attended the meeting.
