February 26, President WANG Shuguo, accompanied by Vice Presidents ZHOU Yu, REN Nanqi and DING Xuemei, welcomed to Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) FAN Daiming, China Academy of Engineering’s Vice President, and concurrently the Fourth Military Medical University’s (FMMU) President. The presidents discussed both ongoing collaborative research projects: Combined Medicine and Engineering and Aviation Medicine.
President WANG reviewed HIT’s life science and engineering history with Academician FAN and looked ahead to a multidisciplinary future. He remarked that HIT had devoted nearly a century of its renowned engineering expertise to China’s aerospace industry, while FMMU, committed to its guiding principle Quality-work Strategy, had achieved notable advances in medicine. Given that the integration of medicine and engineering has gradually attracted more and more social attention, President WANG expressed his hope that both schools would seek more areas of collaboration in addition to aerospace by combining theory and application.
Academician FAN recounted FMMU’s history and achievements including its contributions to military and clinical medicine, sharing its experience in taking Quality-work Strategy as its motto. He commented that FMMU and HIT enjoyed a history of beneficial collaborations. Both FAN and WANG agreed that their university’s joint strengths significantly contribute to the development of China’s science and technology.
In accepting HIT’s invitation, Academician FAN delivered an academic report entitled “Life Science’s Three Millennia - Past and Future” at the Science Park International Convention Center that was well received by HIT’s faculty and students.
