 Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) hosted the inaugural Heilongjiang provincial collegiate “Intellectual Property Cup” awards and closing ceremony at the HIT Student Center.  More than 500 teachers and students from universities throughout Heilongjiang Province participated. This invention and innovation contest is sponsored by the National Science and Technology Department, the Provincial Department of Education, the Provincial Technology Association and the Heilongjiang Provincial Communist Party Committee Youth League.

The Intellectual Property Cup is an initiative of the Heilongjiang Intellectual Property Strategy Plan aimed to encourage college students to be innovative and creative as well as to guide and inspire college teachers and students to seek truth from facts, research diligently, develop new products, and improve the quality of start-up business plans. Students and teachers are challenged to develop their practical ability and knowledge of intellectual property protection and the patent application process.
 
DENG Lu, Director of the Provincial International Cooperation and Planning Office emceed the closing ceremony. LU Nianli, Party Committee Secretary from HIT’s School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering introduced the contest procedures. WANG Wei, Director of the Provincial Science and Technology Department Achievement Office announced the winners and leaders attending the ceremony presented them with their certificates and medals. GAO Tianbei, an HIT student, spoke on behalf of the winners. ZHANG Yi, Vice Director of the Heilongjiang Intellectual Property Office delivered the closing speech. 

This contest, for the first time ever in China, combines product invention, development and design into a single contest.  Contestants from 21 provincial universities submitted 885 products. A number of the 420 invention and development submissions are worthy of commercial production and marketing.  The jury awarded sixty first, second and third prizes, and six excellent organization prizes. HIT received five first prizes, ten second prizes, eleven third prizes, twenty-six merit awards and one outstanding organization award.
