In January 2012, Essential Science Indicators SM (ESI) listed 393 Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) Environmental Science and Ecology papers which were, in turn, quoted 2,015 times in the past 10 years (from January 2001 through August 31, 2011, a 10-year plus 8-month period), ranking HIT’s environmental science and ecology discipline globally among the top one percent.

ESI is summarized publication and citation data from Thomson Reuters for the analysis of research trends and performance (http://sciencewatch.com).

This world-class performance is consistent with HIT’s Science and Industry Institute Analysis Group’s 2011 forecast for HIT. To date, six HIT disciplines have ranked globally in the top one percent according to ESI data – they are Material Science, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Computer science, and Environmental Science and Ecology.
