“It is big brothers and sisters from HIT that motivate us with their love,” said LI Haixiang, Ninglang National senior high school student, expressing the participants’ gratitude.  The Azaleas Bloom, Eagles Fly Education Support Program, initiated by the Ninth HIT Graduate Education Support Delegation provides donated money and materials, one-on-one mentoring, loving and caring action, and infrastructure construction to help impoverished students and alleviate poverty.

ZHAO Hao, service team captain, said the Azaleas Bloom, Eagles Fly Program is aimed at raising awareness of the poverty-stricken mountainous Xiaoliangshan area located in Yunnan Province, in southwest China and helping the poor, but excellent students with money and supplies so they will not have to abandon their education.

75 primary, middle and high school students enjoy the one-on-one mentoring. Each will continue in the program until his or her graduation from either high school or college. It is hoped that program alumni will remain in their community to build a better future for Xiaoliangshan.

The program has raised RMB 112,000 in cash and more than RMB 231,000 worth of materials from mostly compassionate HIT teachers and students. The general public is welcome to participate.

The Azaleas Bloom, Eagles Fly Program was officially launched in Ninglang Yi Autonomous County, Yunnan Province. At the opening ceremony, local county officials and the Education Support Delegation members distributed RMB 31,200 to 66 students.
