March 23rd, HIT Student Affairs and Food Service jointly established a financial-aid work-study program that offers more part-time job opportunities for HIT students, with priority given to those having heavy financial burdens.
The part-time employment affords students opportunities to gain valuable experience working, applying for employment, and working with the public. Food Service plans to hire 80 work-study students as kitchen hands, dishwashers, food sellers, customer service reps, floorwalkers, inspectors and janitors, earning RMB 400 per month. Students will earn a Work Study Certificate and are eligible for awards offered at the end of the semester by Student Affairs and Facilities Department.
Student Affairs Office Director SU Gongchen remarked that expanding opportunities for work-study jobs is one of HIT’s priorities this year. They serve to effectively implement the Ministry of Education Practical Education Guideline and contribute to a strong work ethic and harmonious campus atmosphere. The program gives students the opportunity to contribute to their academic expenses reducing the economic burden upon their families.
Student Affairs has trained the first work-study program participants on résumé writing and interviewing. Food Service organized pre-employment training for the candidates who succeeded in being selected for one of the available positions. Some students have begun working; more will join them.
