Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) cosponsored the 6th International Conference on Physical and Numerical Simulation of Materials Processing (ICPNS), which was awarded the 2010 Top 10 Influential Academic Activities by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES) for its outstanding achievement of academic quality, organization, distinguished papers and fundraising. This was the second time ICPNS won this annual award. Chairman of the conference, Professor NIU Jitai, from HIT’s School of Material Science and Engineering, was awarded the honor of CMES Advanced Worker in 2006-2011.

The ICPNS conference is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and co-sponsored by twenty societies and universities from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, mainland China, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Russia, Sweden, Taiwan, UK and the USA. It provides a forum for researchers around the world to present papers on recent advances in the overall field of physical & numerical methods and their applications in thermo-mechanical processing of advanced materials. It has been hosted in Harbin (1990), Hainan (1997), Beijing (1999), Shanghai (2004) and Zhengzhou (2007).

Co-sponsors of the 2010 ICPNS conference held on November 16-19, 2010 in Guilin, Guangxi, China joining HIT in the honor of this award include Guilin University of Electronic Technology and the Materials Institution-Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (MI-CMES).
