March 31st, Vice President SUN Heyi, LI Yu, Dean and WU Qiong, Vice Dean of the School of Life Science and Technology, welcomed Oxford Professor CUI Zhanfeng to accept the appointment as Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) Principal and International Academic Adviser.  SUN expressed his hope that Professor CUI will advise HIT on Life Science planning and student education.  Professor CUI thanked Vice President SUN for the honor and pledged to help develop HIT’s Life Science Programs by recommending personnel and securing resources. While at HIT Professor CUI lectured on Biotechnology’s Latest Developments.
 
Professor CUI is a world-renowned scholar as well as the first Chinese professor hired by Oxford University and one of its youngest.  He currently serves as Oxford’s Donald Pollock Professor of Chemical Engineering and Founding Director of Oxford’s Centre for Tissue Engineering and Bioprocessing whose research includes tissue engineering, stem cells, bio-separation and bioprocessing, as well as membrane technology.
 
CUI serves on the several Research Councils as a committee or panel member for grant reviews (BBSRC, EPSRC, MRC, CCLRC) and sits on the Editorial Boards of several scientific journals (Journal of Membrane Science, Food and Bioproduct Processing, Patents in Biotechnology, Patents in Engineering, China Particuology, Science [China], Chinese Journal of Antibiotics, Chinese Journal of Biomechanics).
 
He helped to establish the Dalian Research and Development Center for Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering at Dalian University of Technology and currently serves there as the Chang-Jiang Visiting Professor.  He serves as an adviser to the newly established Centre for Biotechnology and Bioengineering at China Petroleum University in Qingdao and collaborates with the Institute of Process Engineering at the Chinese Academy of Science.
 
CUI earned the qualification of Chartered Scientist (Csci) from the British Science Council as well as a Global Research Award and Foresight Award by The Royal Academy of Engineering.
 
Professor CUI’s appointment and lecture was well-received by teachers and students.
