March 20th, in Valencia, Spain, Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) Assistant to the President XU Xiaofei addressed the 6th International Conference on Interoperability for Enterprise Systems and Applications (2012 I-ESA). At the Service Innovation in Manufacturing Industry workshop he reported on “Cloud Computing, Everything as a Service (XaaS)” introducing HIT's 863 Program research on cloud computing, as well as its service techniques and cloud platforms. A lively discussion followed.

I-ESA, an International academic conference on enterprise interoperability, was founded in 2005 by the International Virtual Laboratory for Enterprise Interoperability (INTEROP-Vlab - funded by the 4th Framework Programme of the European Commission) and the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). INTEROP-VLab is a virtual, i.e. distributed and coordinated research organization, which is capable of aggregating existing and future research laboratories in close connection with industry, to achieve a number of goals that each single participant organization could not reach. HIT is a founding partner of the Chinese INTEROP-VLab association member.

Over 120 experts from every corner of the world participated in the four-day conference. XU served as an International Senior Program Committee member and group chair attending 13 workshops.

IFIP Working Group 5.8 Enterprise Interoperability seized the opportunity to hold its 2012 working meeting and general election. They discussed developments at the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain and reelected XU as Vice Chair. Likewise, INTEROP-VLab hosted a partner meeting to celebrate its 5th anniversary.
