The National Publication Foundation awarded Harbin Institute of Technology Press a 1.49 million RMB grant to publish ten books in the series: Conjectures and Problems of the Mathematical World. The series deals with world-famous mathematical conjectures and problems and contains numerous Chinese mathematicians’ accomplishments and contributions to the field. It is another HIT publishing project granted national funding, joining last year’s Aerospace Science and Engineering Monograph Series and furthering HIT Press's stature as the premier publisher of engineering and science books. HIT Press is one of three provincial projects receiving 2012 NPF grants totaling 3.31 million RMB.

Founded in 1983 and sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, HIT Press, was one of the earliest university presses in China and the major publisher of college textbooks, scientific literature and market books. It has published more than 6,000 books, of which more than 200 books have won national, provincial and ministerial awards. Further National Publication Foundation funding adds to HIT Press's stature as the premier publisher of engineering and science books. HIT Press strives to contribute to China's science and technology, culture, education, and career development.

The National Publication Foundation is the third largest national foundation following the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Philosophy and Social Science Foundation. In 2012, among nearly 1,000 presses nationwide, 171 presses acquired National Publication Foundation funds for 205 programs, including 9 natural science programs.
