April 5th,on the anniversary of China’s Tomb Sweeping Festival,nearly a hundred Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) Youth Leaguemembers visited the monument in HIT’s Science Parkhonoring Dr. MA Zuguang,(1928-2003), renowned laser scientist, researcher, and scholar.
MA Zuguang had been long engaged in researchaboutlaser medium spectroscopy, tunable lasers, and non-linear optics, as well as their applications. He worked as aneditorial board member of three scientific journals: ActaOpticaSinica, Spectroscopy and Spectral Analysis, Quantum Electronics.His innovative achievements broadened China’s international influence into new laser media and tunable lasers. He led the development of HIT’sNational Key Laboratory of Science and Technology on Tunable lasers. Hisresearch group undertook 34 national Natural Science Foundationprojects, 5 Chinese People's Liberation Army’s General Armament Department’s pre-research projects and 5 Ministry of Science and Technology’s National High-tech Research and Developmentprojects.
ZHANG Hongtao, HIT Party Deputy Secretary and Vice President, as well as numerous department leaders, Youth League secretaries and members said a few words in appreciation of MA’s great contribution to HIT and China while placingflowersat the statue to honor the former HIT professor.
