A rousing rendition of the National Anthem opened the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) 2012 doctoral degree conferring ceremony April 12th at which DING Xuemei, Vice Presidentof HIT and Vice Chairman of the Degree Conferring Committee announced the decision of the 141st HIT Degree Committee to grant doctoral degrees to 104 students, of whom 15 obtained Doctorates of Science, 83 Doctorates of Engineering and 6 Doctorates of Management.
WANG Shuguo, President of HIT and Chairman of the Degree Committee challenged the graduates to be a graduation class of moral, honest, cooperative and innovative leaders characterized by integrity and ability. “I’m glad to see so many doctoral students graduate on such a memorable day. After years of study you graduate with both expertise and a doctoral degree.” To the graduates who will soon embark on jobs, President WANG expressed his sincere desire that they would be confident when facing adversity; resolute when confronting challenges;altruisticwhen choosing careers; and noble when representing China to the world in order that HIT, their parents and their nation would be proud. President WANG expected,at HIT’s centennial anniversary, that the doctoral graduates would go down in HIT history for their excellent achievements.
ZHEN Liang, Executive Vice President of the Graduate Schoolannounced the graduates while President WANG presented themwith their doctoral degrees.GUO Qiang, graduate representative, credited HIT, their supervisors, families and classmates for supporting them throughout the arduous journey to achieving this milestone. He expressed the graduates’ commitment to bearing in mind the HIT motto, serving China, and making HIT proud.ZHANG Yang, family and friend representative spoke highly of HIT’s excellent research environment, rigorous academic atmosphere, dedicated supervisors and world class student body. He expressed their hope that HIT would continue to educate excellent graduates and enjoy an even brighter future.NAN Jun, representative of doctoral student supervisors and professor in the School of Municipal and Environmental Engineering, congratulated the graduates on achievingtheir degrees. Heexhorted themto indeed bear in mind their country and responsibilities, while persevering throughthe challenges ahead. He expressed his hope that they would remain mindful of HIT’s motto and practice the HIT spirit to achieve China’s superiority.
The HIT Degree Committee Members, Department Heads, Doctoral Student Supervisors, as well as family and friends witnessed the landmark occasion. President Wang closed his remarks by reminding graduates that they were world-class graduate students shouldering the grave responsibility of both their parents’ and society’s hope. They must show the world both the wisdom and tenacity of Chinese scholars.
The ceremony ended with HIT’s school song.
