From April 29th to May 1st, President WANG was invited to participate in the 2012 Fifth Global University Summit in Chicago, USA. Held in conjunction with the G8 Summit and co-hosted by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, the theme for the 2012 Global University Summit was Developing Talent to Drive Innovation in a Global Society. After the Summit, President WANG led the delegation to visit the Missouri University of Science and Technology (MST), University of California, San Diego (UCSD), University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) and Texas A&M University Health Science Center (TAMUHSC). In MST, the delegation discussed possible courses for their joint training agreement and plans for jointly establishing a Confucius Institute. In the UCSD, the HIT School of Management signed a memorandum of understanding with the Rady School of Management. President WANG talked with UCSD’s Chinese students and later led HIT’s delegation to participate in a senior MBA class. In the UTD, the two universities conferred about the details of cooperation between their business schools and the expansion of cooperation to other school disciplines. In the TAMUHSC, the delegation visited the Texas Medical Center, the world's largest medical center. HIT and TAMUHSC also expressed their intention to cooperate in the life sciences field.
Subsequently, the delegation travelled to Canada, where they visited York University (YU), the University of Toronto (U of T) and the University of Waterloo (UW). In YU, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding and student exchange agreement. In the U of T, the delegation members met with relevant personnel of the U of T’s engineering, aerospace, management, science, and life science disciplines. A consensus was reached to develop university cooperation through professors’ research collaboration. In UW, the two sides expressed their satisfaction with existing student exchange programs and their desire to expand the range of joint training disciplines.
The delegation members are the Dean of the School of Science WU Zhiling, the Dean of the School of Life Science and Technology Li Yu, the Vice Dean of the School of Management YE Qiang, Professor of the School of Astronautics CUI Naigang, and the Director of the International Office FAN Hongbo.
