June 18, HIT President WANG Shuguo awarded Royal Academies for Science and the Arts of Belgium (RASAB) Academician and Facultes Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix (FUNDP) Professor SU Baolian as HIT chief international academic adviser.
The ceremony was presided over by Assistant to the Dean of School of Astronautics GAO Huijun. School of Astronautics Professor LI Yao delivered SU’s resume. HIT President WANG Shuguo, on behalf of the university, welcomed SU. WANG introduced that HIT features astronautics and sticks to the idea of “oriented to country’s demands and international academy front field” and independent innovation. HIT has undertaken many national high, precise, top-notch scientific programs and successfully supported the launch of Shenzhou IX manned spacecraft. WANG expressed his hope that Professor SU would push forward the development of astronautic disciplines in HIT. SU expressed his honor as HIT chief international academic adviser and his willing of contribution to developing HIT astronautics.
Professor SU is the first Chinese in RASAB and one of a few Chinese scientists who have studied in Chinese university after 1949 and have been elected in western national academy of science. SU is in the FUNDP Academic Committee. He is the current Dean of Chemistry Department, the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory and the Research Center for Nanomaterials Chemistry. SU is the chief scientist of many European Union research projects and has gained substantial achievements in the fields of composite materials, catalytic materials and photocatalysis low-dimensional metal oxide nano photoelectric materials. He has been awarded by Belgian Royal Chemical Society for four times. In May 2007, SU won the highest scientific award of RASAB.
