September 15, the award ceremony of the 2012 National University Students Industrial Design Competition, Heilongjiang division was held in HIT. HIT student designs received 7 first prizes, 7 second prizes, 14 third prizes and also the Excellent Team Award.

Under the guidance of Department of Higher Education, China’s Ministry of Education, the 2012 competition is conducted by the National Instructive Committee of Industrial Design Education and the Department of Education of Guangdong Province. It is an innovative approach to making industrial design accessible to university students in China. The competition aims to promote reforming the model used to cultivate industrial design talents and the providing of quality training. It establishes an avenue for communicating results and experiences in industrial design education, as well as offering opportunities for manufacturing and innovative industries to find new talents. It includes one national division and many provincial divisions. The competition in the Heilongjiang division was hosted by the Heilongjiang Ministry of Education, the Department of Industrial Design from HIT’s School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and the Heilongjiang Industrial Design Association.

HIT Vice President ZHOU Yu delivered a speech at the ceremony. In his speech ZHOU said that the competition demonstrated the innovative abilities and ideas of current university students. It also promoted communication, collaboration and industrial design education development. Students obtained knowledge, a broader vision and enhanced abilities through the competition. He encouraged students to continue to make progress. HIT’s School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Dean ZHAO Jie introduced the organization and results in Heilongjiang division. Heilongjiang Ministry of Education Vice Inspector DING Zhexue introduced the competition background, thanked HIT for preparing the ceremony and congratulated the winners. Heilongjiang Industrial Design Association Secretary General LIU Yajie, HIT School of Honors Dean LI Haifeng, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Dean ZHAO Jie, Department of Education Evaluation and Quality Management Vice Dean WANG Lixin, as well as about 200 teachers and students from universities in Heilongjiang Province attended the ceremony.

425 works from 14 universities were submitted in the Heilongjiang division. 248 works were selected for the provincial competition. 15 Heilongjiang design experts selected 33 designs for first prizes, 50 for second prizes and 95 for the third prizes. It also presented 4 team awards. The winners were issued certificates by Heilongjiang Ministry of Education. The designs awarded first prize will participate in the national competition. Distinguished guests presented certificates to the representatives of student winners, excellent guide teacher winners and team award winners.

The national competition has finished its interim selection phase. 16 out of the 33 works from Heilongjiang province successfully entered the final. This included 5 designs from HIT: E Era Design of Bus Stop, Hezhen Emotion, Drinking LED Light, Body Computer Mouse and Motor Air Conditioning.
