Assistant President XU Attends International Education Conference in Hong Kong

From March 11th to 15th, Assistant President XU Dianguo attended The 8th Asia-Pacific Association for International Education Conference and Exhibition in Hong Kong. Higher education institutions in the Asia-Pacific region are increasingly embracing international education as their strategic mission. The conference looked at the challenges and opportunities for institutions both inside and outside the region in view of this. He also spoke at the Internalization of Mainland Higher Education Forum.
 
“An Ascendant Asia-Pacific: International Higher Education in the 21st Century” was this year’s conference theme. More than 1200 representatives from over 150 universities and educational institutions in 46 countries and regions participated in the annual conference. Assistant President XU introduced the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities, founded in 2011 to enhance the communication and cooperation between Chinese and Russian Technical Universities. He spoke about the ranking system of university international competitiveness and the conditions for international students in China. He discussed the internationalization of HIT and specific features of HIT’s international communication and cooperation.
 
During his stay in Hong Kong, Assistant President XU also attended The Presidents’ Roundtable, met with XIAO Kai, president of the HIT Alumni Association in Hong Kong, and visited the School of Electrical Engineering and Automation Laboratory in the University of Hong Kong.
 
The Asia-Pacific Association for International Education, founded in 2006, is one of the most powerful university associations in Asia-Pacific region. It holds a Conference and Exhibition annually and has developed into the third biggest regional international education association after the National Association of Foreign Student Affairs in North America and the European Association for International Education. The next annual conference will be hosted in Seoul, Korea in 2014.
