From March 18th to 22nd, a delegation from HIT led by President WANG Shuguo and Vice President DING Xuemei participated in the Temasek Foundation-National University of Singapore Programme for Leadership in University Management organized by the National University of Singapore. A total of 54 presidents and deans from 15 universities in China and Singapore held an in-depth discussion on university governance and global talent management, curriculum reform and educational innovation, the appointment and training of professors, and internationalization of higher education and social services.

At the opening ceremony, President TAN Chorh Chuan of the National University of Singapore said the original aim of this conference was to stimulate discussions about university management, international development, student exchange and financing, and to exchange ideas. As well, universities needed quicker responses and in-depth reforms to face the increasingly complex patterns of higher education. University governance has become increasingly prominent, and this conference provides a platform for further discussions and exchanges about university governance and project implementation.

During the conference, the Chinese delegates were invited to visit Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Singapore. Charge d’Affaires DAI Bing welcomed the university delegates on behalf of the embassy. He pointed out that relations between China and Singapore were in the new period of development, economic and trade exchanges and personnel exchanges between the two countries were very close, and educational exchanges also played an important role in the exchange between the two countries. Chinese university delegations visiting Singapore and promoting the progress of high education exchange programs between China and Singapore will certainly promote the further development of bilateral relations.

President WANG expressed sincere gratitude for the embassy’s warm reception on behalf of all the delegates. He said that Singapore did a lot of useful work in educational reform and university governance, obtained remarkable achievements, and has become an important reference to China’s educational development. Education is a strong nation’s foundation. As an educator, he hoped to convert China from a powerful nation of education to a nation of powerful education.

The HIT delegation also met with HIT alumni in Singapore. More than 100 HIT alumni met. President WANG learnt about preparations being made for the Harbin Institute of Technology Alumni Association (Singapore), encouraged all present to study hard, work hard, take good care of themselves and contribute to the construction and development of the two countries.
