On October 29, the China Aero-modelling Design Championships came to the end. Nearly 1,000 participants in teams from 53 different universities participated in the competition. The HIT Model Airplane Association achieved excellent results in the competition. In the solar aircraft project, the solar aircraft design group led by BAI Rui won the first prize. In the electric glider project, LI Xiang gained the first prize, WANG Chaorui and CUI Jiang separately won the second prize.
The HIT Model Airplane Association also received the first prize in the exterior design of solar aircraft. It won the fourth prize in the group category of the design of simulation of helicopter search and rescue and the system of model aircraft launching and returning. The projects, helicopter gripping device made by WANG Xiaobo and his group and the design of a re-entry capsule based on ultrasound waves and delay module made by MA Zhuang and his group won the third prize in scientific and technological innovation. In the opening ceremony, the team members of the simulation of helicopter search and rescue of the HIT Model Airplane Association were invited to participate in the show. The team leader and teacher MA Hongtao made a speech at the closing ceremony on behalf of all the participating teams.
The HIT Model Airplane Association was founded in 1990, and it is a student association which is lively with a long history. It has a membership of nearly 200 people who come from the School of Astronautics, the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, the School of Mechatronic Engineering, the School of Material Science and Engineering, the School of Energy Science and Engineering, the School of Electrical Engineering and Automation and other schools or departments. There are 50 experienced core members in the association. After 23 years of development, the HIT Model Airplane Association developed from model space rocket only to many kinds of models such as rockets, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. The association focuses on the China Aeromodelling Design Championships, and is oriented by the developing of aerospace–related, technological and innovative works. The works achieve the aim of self-dependent innovation. Also, all kinds of self-designed aircraft have appeared and won big prizes in the national competitions and technological and innovative competitions. Since 1995, the HIT Model Airplane Association has provided performances of model aircraft on the HIT School Sports Meeting each year.
