November 5th and 6th, by invitation of the University of Macau Rector Wei ZHAO, President WANG Shuguo attended the 2013 Higher Education Development Summit and New Campus Inauguration in Macau. During the summit President WANG made a presentation entitled HIT Scientific Research and its Educational Function.
The 2013 Higher Education Development Summit, was organized by the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR and hosted by the University of Macau. Approximately 100 university presidents, professors and scholars from the United States, Portugal, African countries, mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao attended the summit. The summit focused on three topics, “Scientific Research and Its Function in Education”, “Student Affairs and Campus Education/New Media's Role in Higher Education” and “Different Modes of University Governance and Their Applicability / Internationalization and Networking”. Participants discussed ways to establish an innovative platform for collaboration in education and research amid the increasing globalization of higher education so that collaboration can play a bigger role in the Greater China region, the Asia-Pacific region, and beyond.
During his presentation on November 6th, President WANG introduced the work of our university in research in recent years, especially regarding a research collaborative innovation system combined with "significant demand for the country, for the international academic frontier". He pointed out that, research conducted by the university combination collaborative innovation is a new stage of development,which has become a world trend. As an important historical period of innovation-driven strategy, changing economic and social development, to carry out research through collaborative innovation is an important education strategy for high-level research universities, as well as an effective approach in high-level personnel training. President WANG also introduced relevant initiatives of personnel training combined with major research projects.
On November 5th, President WANG also attended the New Campus Inauguration of University of Macau . Around 500 participants, including Vice-Premier WANG Yang, officials from the Guangdong government, the chief executive of the Macao SAR, dignitaries, guests, staff, students and alumni representatives attended the occasion to witness this historic moment. As well as the plaque unveiling by Vice-Premier WANG, the chief executive, the chairman of the University Council of the University of Macau, and the student representative also gave speeches.
