The team competitions of the 9th Chou Pei-yuan National Undergraduates Mechanics Contest recently concluded in Southwest Jiaotong University and Sichuan University. Two participating teams from HIT won the first prizes in Basic Mechanics Experiment and Theoretical Design and Operation. This is the best result since HIT first participated in this contest.

The Chou Pei-yuan National Undergraduates Mechanics Contest is a national contest for Chinese university students. It is approved by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and co-sponsored by the Higher Education Steering Committee, the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and the Chou Pei-yuan Foundation. Once every two years since 1988, the contest has been held, a total of 9 times so far. More than 17000 students from nearly 200 schools participated in the present contest. The contest had two parts: individual competitions and team competitions, with the individual competitions concluding in June. The top 30 schools in the individual competitions were eligible to participate in two team competitions in Basic Mechanics Experiment and Theoretical Design and Operation. The two team competitions each had 1 top prize, 2 first prizes, 4 second prizes and 8 third prizes.

HIT students gained 3 first prizes and 6 second prizes in the individual competitions, and then entered the team competitions. Two representative teams led by the instructors Professor ZHANG Qiuhua and Associate Professor ZHEN Yubao both won first prizes due to their solid mechanics basics, indomitable fighting spirit and excellent psychological qualities.
