From April 2nd to 7th, the First Pro-rector of the Moscow Architectural Institute, Professor Mihail Valerevish Shubenkov led a teacher-student delegation consisting of architecture and urban planning majors visiting HIT and holding a joint innovation design workshop with the School of Architecture.

On April 3rd, Vice President REN Nanqi met the Russian delegation. Vice President REN reviewed the history of the cooperation between HIT and Russian universities. He considered that the joint workshop marked the beginning of substantive cooperation in the field of educational practice between the two universities and hoped to reinforce this substantive, innovative and sustainable cooperation in high-level talents cultivation and discipline construction and development. Professor Shubenkov introduced the Moscow Architectural Institute and expressed his hope to develop student-teacher academic interaction with the cooperation of the two universities.

The leadership of the School of Architecture and the Moscow Architectural Institute held a series of meetings to better understand each other’s respective academic settings and talents cultivation programs at the undergraduate and graduate level. They discussed how to implement joint talents cultivation, long-term and short-term advanced studies and joint final projects. The Russian delegation also visited the Architectural Design and Research Institute of HIT, a first class design and research institute in China, and Harbin Institute of Technology Urban Planning and Design Institute.

The joint innovation design student workshop had the theme of the protection and reconstruction of a historical district, the senior working staff residential area beside the Chinese Eastern Railway, a railway in northeastern China linking Chita with Vladivostok in the Russian Far East. Its aim was to develop the students’ rapid design thinking ability and consciousness of historical heritage protection. The workshop marked a new form of cooperation in the architecture area between the two universities.

April 7th, the different teams in the joint innovation design workshop presented their designs to instructors from the two universities who expressed their opinions and rated the students’ works. After the presentations, Professor Shubenkov and the Vice Dean of the School of Architecture LIU Daping issued certificates to the team members.
