To commemorate the 85th anniversary of the birth of Academician MA Zuguang, Student Art Troupe presented a brilliant visual feast to teachers and students in the evening of April 12, launching the 27th Art Festival.

The show had a mix of traditional Chinese folk music, Western orchestral music, vocal music, dance and other art forms. The show's theme was "Seek the Light Footprint, Pursue the China Dream", which was divided into three parts “Serve the Motherland, Glory to China”, "Be Benign and Openhearted, Behold a High Mountain with Awe", and “Brilliant Movement and Realize Dream". The first part “Serve the Motherland, Glory to China” included 5 performances: "Dance of the Golden Snake", “Dunhuang”, "Jasmine", "Long live the motherland" and “A Glass of Wine”. The second part "Be Benign and Openhearted, Behold a High Mountain with Awe" included six performances: “Rolling in the Deep”, "Fighting the Typhoon", "Red Hero", "Flowers and Young" and "Motherland will not forget ". The third part "Brilliant Movement and Realize Dream" included three performances: “Beethoven's Sixth Symphony "Pastoral" (first movement)”, “Beethoven's Sixth Symphony "Pastoral" (second movement)” and the Piano Concerto "Defend the Yellow River".

After the performance, the reporter interviewed the students participating in the show and the audience about their opinions about MA Zuguang spirit and "China Dream". SUN Yue, one of the performers in the dance “You are the Light” and a student of the School of Management, said the pragmatic spirit on scientific research and patriotism of Academician MA Zuguang were a great encouragement to contemporary youth who bear the historic mission of realizing the China dream. LI Jiali, a student of School of Law who watched the show, said that she learnt a lot and had a deeper understanding of Academician MA Zuguang. His selfless dedication, indifference to fame and wealth and pragmatic spirit are worth studying. At the same time, as a contemporary college student, we should apply MA Zuguang’s spirit into daily life and realize the "China Dream" through practical actions.

Academician MA Zuguang was a renowned scholar in the Laser field and Professor in the HIT School of Astronautics, founding the Department of Optoelectronic Technology in 1970. In 2001, he was named Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
