September 5, our school and the Pacific National University which is one of the members of the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities (ASRTU) jointly held the ASRTU Sino-Russian International Youth Volunteer Camp Memory Flowers event in Harbin. The event aimed to cherish the memory of the Soviet heroes who sacrificed themselves for the liberation of Northeast China during World War II; cultivating their patriotic passion and defending the national interest. It also sought to promote Sino-Russian friendship between young people while passing Sino-Russian friendship from generation to generation. HIT International Students’ Center Director GU Jianzheng was among the HIT and ASTRU representatives attending the event.

The faculty and students from the Pacific National University first visited the HIT Museum in order to understand the deep historical roots between our school and Russia. Then the delegation went to our School Activity Center and held discussions with Russian language faculty and students representatives of the School of Foreign Languages. They focused on World War II history, the support provided by the Soviet Red Army to the Northeast Chinese people, and the Monument to the Martyrs of the Red Army in Northeast China. Student representatives of Russia and China used pictures and videos vividly displaying the achievements of ASRTU Memory Flowers over the past year. Through a variety of historical data and war documents, they introduced the strong will and deep national friendship of Sino-Russian people during World War II. After the discussion, the representatives of the Sino-Russian faculty and students went to Harbin Hongbo Square, presenting flowers and sweeping the Monument to the Martyrs of the Red Army. The leader of the Pacific National University delegation said: The coming of ASRTU Memory Flowers to HIT makes me feel very excited. At the same time, I am grateful to ASRTU for providing a stage for communication where faculty and students in both schools can deepen their understanding of history and where Chinese and Russian youth can develop their friendships. China and Russia have deep historical roots. During the war we were close friends. During peace time we are the most loyal friends. Sino-Russian friendship and solidarity of the young people represents the friendly future between the two countries. Under the framework of the Association, I hope that we can organize many similar events to bring fresh energy and offer strong sustainable impetus to the development of the Sino-Russian strategic partnership.
