From August 25 to September 1, Assistant President XU Dianguo led a delegation from HIT to visit South Korea to participate in the Fifth Korea and China Universities Presidential Forum and visit some friendly universities and related businesses. The delegation included representatives from the School of Electrical Engineering and Automation, the School of Science and the International Office.

On August 31, Assistant President XU attended Fifth Korea and China Universities Presidential Forum which was hosted by the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. More than 50 universities from China and South Korea participated in the forum. Participants focused on "Improvement of the international competitiveness of Chinese and Korean Universities", “Academic exchanges among faculty, staff and students from Chinese and Korean Universities" and "The Asian model of university development evaluation system" holding discussions and hearing presentations. Assistant President XU made a presentation on the second topic, academic exchanges. He introduced the situation in various fields between our university and Korean universities and put forward ideas and suggestions for future exchanges between Chinese and Korean universities.

The delegation also visited friendly universities and companies in South Korea including the Pohang University of Science and Technology, Korea University, Hanyang University, Seoul National University, Sungkyunkwan University, Ewha Womans University and the LS Group. They held discussions and negotiations and visited laboratories and factories. The delegation visited the early cosmic research laboratories led by Nobel Prize winner George Fitzgerald Smoot and the fourth generation electron beam accelerator in the Pohang University of Science and Technology and learnt about the construction of Korea’s Big Science project.

Members of the delegation developed a deeper understanding of international university development and the university-industry collaboration of Korean companies through this visit. This visit deepened the relationship between our university and Korean universities and institutions. During the visit, other schools had expressed interest in the CSC training high-level PhD project which was put forward by HIT and reached a preliminary agreement on the implementation and operation of the summer project.
