August 22, the 8th China Technology Innovation Award for Youth Award Ceremony was held in the Great Hall of the People. It was co-sponsored by The Central Committee of the Communist Young League, the All-China Youth Federation, the All-China Students Federation and the China Young Pioneers National Working Commission. Communist Party of China Politburo member and Vice Premier LIU Yandong attended the award ceremony along with Communist Party of China Politburo member and Vice President LI Yuanchao who gave a speech. 2013 graduate student WAN Long who studies in the Advanced Welding and Connecting National Laboratory of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at HIT received the award. He is the sixth HIT student to receive the award. ZHANG Xingwen, WANG Jiannan, ZHOU Bin, WANG Wenshou, and LIU Yuann have received it in the past.
WAN Long is an undergraduate student of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and was recommended to continue studying in our college as a graduate student. During his undergraduate studying, under the guidance of Associate Professor HUANG Yongxian of the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Welding and Joining, he has published five papers about SCI retrieval and applied for eight national invention patents. He has won the first prize in the American Mathematical Contest in Modeling, the first prize of the 13th Heilongjiang Challenge Cup contest, the first prize in Heilongjiang Province of the China Undergraduate Mathematical Competition, the first prize of the Heilongjiang Materials Science and Engineering Undergraduate Innovation Design Competition, Heilongjiang Province Outstanding Graduates and other six provincial level awards and twenty-two school level awards .
The China Technology Innovation Awards for Youth were founded in 2004 on the 100th anniversary of Comrade DENG Xiaoping's birthday. According to Comrade DENG Xiaoping's last wish, his relatives donated all of his royalties and commissioned the Central Committee of the Communist Young League, All-China Youth Federation, All-China Students Federation and China Young Pioneers National Working Commission to jointly found it. During the last nine years, 800 students from universities, middle schools and primary schools have received this award. The selection process of the 8th China Technology Innovation Award for Youth began in May of this year, and awarded 100 students in total.
